JR. CELEBRATION TO FEATURE MINNESOTA SUPREME COURT JUSTICE AND NFL HALL OF FAME
MEMBER ALAN PAGE JAN. 20 AT VITERBO
LA
CROSSE, Wis. – Minnesota Supreme Court Justice and National Football
League Hall of Fame member Alan Page will give the keynote address at the La
Crosse Community Annual Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at 7 p.m. Monday,
Jan. 20 in the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.
Page became Minnesota’s first
African-American Supreme Court Justice when he was elected to the court in
1992. He was reelected in 1998, 2004, and 2010. Before his time on the court,
he served as an assistant attorney general and a special assistant attorney
general and was an associate with the Minnesota law firm Lindquist and Vennum.
Page had an outstanding professional
football career and was elected to the NFL Hall of Fame in 1988. He is best
known as a key member of the Minnesota Vikings defense in the 1970s. He
attended law school at the University of Minnesota during the height of his
football career. Page is an ardent defender of equal education for children and
he is the founder of the Page Education Foundation, which assists students of
color with post-secondary education.
The La Crosse Community Annual Rev. Martin
Luther King Jr. Celebration is free and open to the public. The event will also
feature music by the Viterbo Concert Choir and the presentation of the MLK
Leadership Award, which will be given to William Coleman and Dempsey Miller
III. The award honors both men’s extraordinary contributions to the La Crosse
community that demonstrate Rev. King’s legacy of positive change from
generation to generation. Regina Siegel will serve as Master of Ceremonies and
La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat will make a Mayoral Proclamation.
The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration
is organized by the La Crosse Community Annual Rev. Martin King Jr. Celebration
Committee and is hosted by Viterbo University. Page’s appearance is
co-sponsored by the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership. The event
has been held for the past decade to celebrate the legacy of this American hero
and icon.
