A reception for artist Cathy Breslaw will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 in the Viterbo University Gallery.
Breslaw’s work, which includes drawings, installations, and wall work, is currently on display in the gallery. The exhibit, entitled “Vibrations,” will run until Friday, Oct. 28. She will give a workshop and talk for the Viterbo community at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 in Fine Arts Center room 301.
Based in southern California, Breslaw is a contemporary visual artist who has been featured in more than 30 solo exhibitions and has participated in more than 50 group exhibitions in museums, art centers, college and university galleries, and commercial galleries across the U.S. According to her website, she explores the boundaries of painting and continually experiments with accessible commercial materials to create large format wall, floor, sculptural and installation works that engage concepts of light, space, and the interconnected and ephemeral nature of life.
“Making art has been a continuous thread throughout my life,” she said. “Punctuated by the joy and reverence I have for nature and a relentless curiosity about the world around me, my work combines painting, drawing and sculpture.”
Breslaw earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University in California. She also earned a Master of Social Work degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
There is no admission fee to the gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Fine Arts Center. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. when school is in session.
