Fa La La La La La La La La
The Cabinet and Deans join Joan and me in wishing you and your families a blessed Advent and a very Merry Christmas. Likewise, we offer seasonal greetings to those who celebrate other faith traditions at this time of the year.
Viterbo Rings, Viterbo Rocks! In addition to its monthly Service Saturdays program, the Viterbo community accepted the invitation of the Salvation Army to staff all 16 of its Red Kettle bell ringing sites Nov. 19. More than 150 faculty, staff, and student volunteers braved the wind and cold for two-hour shifts throughout the day. The Viterbo ringers raised $5,436, a 42 percent increase over last year.
The holidays provide many opportunities to celebrate community and the spirit of Christmas. One such tradition is the President’s Holiday Dinner where hospitality, joy, and food were in abundance. Thank you to the 70 volunteers—faculty, staff, administration, spouses, and community police officers who served about 700 students. Over 500 students were seated and served within the first hour! Special thanks to Diane Brimmer and Denise Homstad for organizing the volunteers; and to Mary Simota, Chef Havin Rehwinkel and the Aramark staff for a sumptuous meal. And a tip of Santa’s hat to the elves who labored in the dish room—Emilio Alvarez, Diane Brimmer, Pam Dixon, Erin Flottmeyer, Ben Larsen, John Metelko, Julie Meyers, John Robinson, Tom Thibodeau, and Delayne Vogel.
The annual Festival of Lights and Carols is considered by many university benefactors and friends as the opening event of their holiday season. Thank you to the staff in the institutional advancement office, the music department, campus ministry, and others who planned and supported this joyful event. To all who brought joy, laughter, and gifts to the alumni children’s Christmas celebration—thank you!
I am privileged to accompany the Concert Choir, 9th Street Singers, and the music faculty for their annual caroling at St. Rose Convent and Villa St. Joseph. The Sisters eagerly look forward to this concert. Thank you Dan Johnson-Wilmot and Ann Schoenecker for your beautiful solos and to Brett Robison and the choirs for lifting the spirits of our founders.
On behalf of the Hospitality Committee, I invite you to join us for fellowship, song, and prizes at the annual Employee Christmas Social Friday, Dec. 16 in the Fine Arts Center Lobby from 3–4:30 p.m.
Thanks to all for the festive decorations in your offices, treats for students, charity to those in need, and Christmas cheer to one another.
On a Personal Note
Thank you for the many ways you have affirmed our service to the university in the past days and weeks. Joan and I are humbled by your gracious words of support and gratitude. It has been a privilege and honor to serve you.
Peace and All Good, Always
Rick Artman
President
