PAINTINGS OF ARTIST TOM BERENZ TO BE FEATURED IN EXHIBIT OPENING IN THE VITERBO UNIVERSITY GALLERY OCT. 1

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The paintings of award-winning artist Tom Berenz will be featured in an exhibit entitled “Near the North” opening with a reception at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 in the Viterbo University Gallery.

Berenz is an assistant professor of painting and drawing at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. His work has been exhibited across the U.S. and has been featured in numerous prestigious art publications.

“My paintings are about my relationship to the world around me; cerebral and physical, intellectual and visceral,” he said. “I use the disaster motif as a metaphor to discuss personal, sociopolitical, environmental, and ideological issues. The paintings are about an investigation of unlimited possibilities, applications, and styles within a painting.”

Berenz earned a Master of Arts degree in painting from Northern Illinois and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin.

The exhibit will run until Friday, Oct. 31. There is no admission fee to the gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Fine Arts Center on campus. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. when school is in session.
