MUNDANITIES SENIOR SHOW TO OPEN IN THE VITERBO UNIVERSITY GALLERY NOV. 17
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The art of students Grace Amundson and MacKenzie Hanson will be on display in the Viterbo University Gallery beginning with a reception from 5–7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17.
The exhibit, entitled Mundanities, will feature paintings in acrylic and oil, intaglio and woodcut prints, photographs, and ceramics. Both artists have been working for three years toward this capstone experience in the art and art education programs, developing a cohesive body of idiosyncratic works that are strong in form and content.
As a future art educator, Amundson enjoys working with many types of materials, but painting is her favorite. She enjoys creating pieces with personal meaning and a story. She is especially drawn to color and the impact it can have on works of art.
Hanson’s work is a celebration of figures of historical or societal importance, objects of culturally iconographic significance, such as the “TV Dinner,” characters related to Marvel and DC Comics, literary creations, and film. Her current series centers around various foods that are considered strange or taboo by contemporary standards, but at one point were considered commonplace.
The show will run until Wednesday, Dec. 8. There is no admission fee to the gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Viterbo Fine Arts Center. The gallery is open from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. when school is in session. For the full schedule of Viterbo University gallery exhibits, visit https://www.viterbo.edu/art-track/viterbo-university-gallery.
