Meet New Library Employee Kalla Kalloway

Thursday, December 1, 2016

Name: Kalla Kalloway

Position: Information Services Assistant

Education background: Undergradute—Art Education, Viterbo College; Graduate—Library Science, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse

What was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had? I was a bookmobile driver/librarian for the Winding Rivers Library System many years ago. It was great to travel to six different counties in the area, learn my way around, and meet lots of interesting rural library customers, not to mention eating at some of the best little restaurants and cafes in the area (and one school cafeteria) for lunch.

Hometown: Dubuque, Iowa

Why did you choose Viterbo as your next employer? I just moved back to the area after living in the Twin Cities for almost 30 years. I found I wasn't quite ready to retire and this job brings together my familiarity with library services and my positive experience as a Viterbo student.

Of the five Viterbo values, which resonates with you most and why? I most identify with stewardship, and feel very strongly that it is my responsibility to care for my environment in a healthy and honest way. It is important for me to seek creative ways to continuously improve and exert a positive influence on the world in which I live.

Hobbies: Reading, gardening, painting, jewelry making, walking

Unique fact about you: I volunteered with Second Chance Animal Rescue in White Bear Lake, Minn. as a foster parent to almost 40 dogs in the last six years. I am hoping to continue doing this as I  get settled back into La Crosse and find a rescue organization to work with.

Anything about your family you would like to share?: My two cats, Lulu and BooBoo, are not looking forward to more foster dogs in the house.
