Telling Viterbo Stories with the Library Archives

Not only does Viterbo have an intriguing history as a university, but every Viterbo department has its own unique story. There are many ways to find out about Viterbo University’s history. Continuity and Change: the History of Viterbo College, 1890-1990 is a good place to start. It was written by Theodine Sebold, FSPA, and Celestine Cepress, FSPA, and details many important developments in university history. The 125th anniversary video also offers a general history through archival photographs and video.

There are many other pieces of university history told through newspaper articles, yearbooks, scrapbooks, film footage and photographs all contained in the library archives. Within this history is the story of Viterbo’s academic programs, departments and committees, student clubs and student life as well as campus events through the decades. The DVD collection includes vintage Viterbo commercials and recordings of historic campus events. The Viterbo yearbooks offer a nice snapshot of student life and a look at academic departments and offices through the years. There are historic film clips and interviews with the Franciscan Sisters that reflect the exciting developments and changes around the campus. The Faculty Minutes mirror the historic concerns of the university from year to year. The Viterbo scrapbooks date back to 1939 and are full of timely newspaper articles and photos.
