Viterbo senior Jessie Knapp put two of her passions—service and the environment—into practice at the annual President's Day of Service in April.
"My love of the environment has always been an important part of who I am," said Knapp, a business major from Shawano who graduated May 12, 2018. "Since I was young, my family has always served others, and today service is ingrained in students at Viterbo."
Knapp was a regular participant in the Service Saturdays program, which consisted of groups of Viterbo students and employees performing service work in the community once a month followed by lunch and reflection back on campus.
"The Service Saturdays program made us part of a community and gave us a sense of purpose," she said.
On campus, Knapp was the vice president of the Enactus business club, the manager of the Enactus Boys and Girls Club Garden, and was an advisor in the Dahl School of Business mentor program. She also founded the Viterbo Outdoor Adventures and Recreation Club. Her hobbies include hiking, visiting Riverside Park, and spending time with friends.
"My Viterbo experience was as good as it could have been," she said. "I'm very happy with my choice to attend Viterbo. It made me into the person I am today."
Knapp has accepted a temporary position with the u.S. Forest Service in the Spotted Bear Ranger District in Montana. She will work as a forestry aide and maintain trails in the Flathead National forest for six months.
"I wanted to leave the world I know and try something different," she said of her post-graduation plans. "I'm going into the woods for six months and when I come out, I thinkI'll know what step to take next in my career journey."
