JAMES SEWELL BALLET TO PERFORM LOVER AND OTHER WORKS AT VITERBO UNIVERSITY JAN. 30

LA CROSSE, Wis. – James Sewell Ballet will present Lover and Other Works at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30 in the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Main Theatre.

James Sewell Ballet performs innovative work that explores the technical boundaries of the art form. The company, which is based in the Twin Cities, will feature their poignant and poetically comic ballet Lover, featuring the music of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart with choreography set to My Funny Valentine, 10 Cents and Dance, and more.

Minneapolis native James Sewell moved to New York City and studied at the School of American Ballet. He was a lead dancer with Feld Ballets of New York for six years and performed as a guest artist with other prestigious ballets. He has choreographed more than 70 ballets for companies in the U.S. and around the world. He founded his namesake ballet with Sally Rouse and moved it to Minnesota in 1993.

“A polished gem of a chamber dance troupe from Minnesota, James Sewell is one of American ballet’s most inventive choreographers,” wrote a reviewer in the New York Times. “Different and unpredictable, this is the company to see.”

This performance is part of Viterbo’s Bright Star season and is sponsored by the Arts Midwest Touring Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from the Wisconsin Arts Board and General Mills Foundation. Wisconsin Public Radio is the media sponsor.

Tickets are $36 for main floor, $32 for lower balcony, and $26 for upper balcony seating. For more information or to order tickets, contact the Viterbo box office at 608-796-3100 or visit www.viterbo.edu/tickets.
