October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic violence on college campuses is more prevalent than you might think. One in five college students experience sexual assault during their college years.

Alcohol is often a contributing factor, as it affects the user’s ability to perceive and process information. This distortion in the user’s thinking does not cause violence, but may increase the risk that the user will misinterpret his or her partner or another’s behavior.

To bring awareness to this issue, Viterbo health services will be offering informational booths on campus Monday, Oct. 12. Visit the booths at the following locations:

  • 11 a.m.–noon in the School of Nursing Building Lobby
  • noon–1 p.m. in the Student Union Lobby
  • 1–2 p.m. on the Brohpy Center patio.

Stop by and “pin” a message on a purple pinwheel in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Wear or display purple to raise awareness about domestic violence. These pinwheels will be placed behind Brophy Center on Wednesday, Oct. 14 to mourn those who have died because of domestic violence, to celebrate those who have survived, and to connect those who work to end violence.
