Janet Holter

Janet Holter is an associate professor and program director of the social work program, teaching classes across the curriculum. Holter has been a certified social worker for over 20 years, with extensive practice experience in child welfare. She holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees in social work, completing her DSW through St. Catherine/University of St. Thomas in May 2018. Holter’s research interests include professional identity development, child welfare, ethics and boundaries, and practitioner wellness/self-care. She regularly conducts trainings in Wisconsin and Minnesota for social workers on ethics and boundaries.

How many years have you worked at Viterbo?

I have worked at Viterbo since August 2011, so almost 10 years.

Best known for teaching …

I am best known for teaching practice courses, particularly interviewing, Practice with Individuals and Families, and Field Education.

What do you love most about teaching at Viterbo?

I love the connection with students. Smaller class sizes help us really get to know our students. They are amazing individuals!

What inspires you?

My husband and my children, every day.
