Emily’s Story

As the immigration reform debate in Washington, D.C., makes national headlines, Viterbo University graduate Emily Rose deals with this important issue every day as she helps this country’s aspiring citizens.

As a Board of Immigration Appeals Accredited Representative and Immigration Case Manager with Catholic Charities, Rose has found a career she describes as “very rewarding and challenging.”

Rose always had a strong interest in helping people, and her position gives her a meaningful sense of satisfaction each day. She acts as a liaison and advocate for clients as they navigate the complex immigration system, preparing official paperwork and offering other important assistance.

While the majority of her clients are native Spanish speakers, she works with people of all backgrounds, including recent clients from France, Russia, and Laos.

The Viterbo Spanish program gave her the skills she needed to succeed.

“I speak Spanish every day,” Rose said. “And I learned Spanish at Viterbo from faculty who are native speakers from three different countries.”

Rose also gained a new perspective on a variety of issues and a great interest in striving for social justice.

“Viterbo is a place where the faculty wants students to do well,” Rose said, “and they enable us to do so.”
