Civil rights icon Ruby Bridges, who at six years old was the first black student to desegregate William Frantz Public School in New Orleans, was the keynote speaker at the annual La Crosse Community Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Jan. 19 in the Fine Arts Center Main Theatre. Nearly 2,000 people attended the event with the audience filling the main theatre, recital hall, and the lobby.
