Your junior year is the ideal time to begin laying the groundwork for your future by starting the college search process. We’ve put together a seasonal checklist to make the process as seamless as possible.
Fall
- Make a list of college features that interest you after researching them online and talking with family, friends, college grads, teachers, and counselors. For example, at Viterbo, students benefit from our small class sizes and the opportunity to work one-on-one with experienced faculty.
- Meet with your school counselor and tell them what you’re looking for in a college. They can then use that information to make recommendations based on what they know about you.
- Start researching financial aid with your family at www.viterbo.edu/affordable. At Viterbo, students get an average of over $16,600 in gift aid, which is money that doesn’t have to be repaid. We are committed to providing an affordable education that delivers proven results.
- Begin prepping for the ACT or SAT. This is a great time to look for free ACT/SAT preparation tools and practice tests. You can also register in advance for the SAT, ACT, or both.
Winter
- Start to narrow the list of schools you’re interested in. Consider things like the majors that interest you, the location of the schools, and the different experiences they offer. Many of our students point to their campus visit as the moment they knew Viterbo was the place for them. Being located in the No. 1 College Town in Wisconsin, according to the American Institute for Economic Research, doesn’t hurt either. Find out more at www.viterbo.edu/visit.
Spring
- Spring break is a great time to visit schools. If you’re thinking about visiting Viterbo, you should register for our Junior Visit Day in early May. The event will give you an opportunity to check out our campus during our annual Courtyard Carnival. Come enjoy the fun!
- This is a good time to review the information from your visits and think about where you want to apply. Remember, the college search process is about what YOU want. Think about your values and how they align with different schools. Consider how developing strong relationships with faculty will provide the support and challenges you need to meet your goals.
- Finish the year strong to make sure you have the best possible GPA before you apply to colleges. This is also a great time to schedule a summer visit to Viterbo. We hope to see you on campus!
