This semester’s Career Prep Series for students kicks off Thursday, Jan. 21 from 3:30–4:30 p.m. in Reinhart Center room 127 with the presentation “Decoding the Federal Job Application Process.” Tim Donahue, recruiter with the Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center, will explain some of the ins and outs of the application process for federal jobs, share information about specific federal internship and employment opportunities, and provide tips for a successful application process. A short session for veterans attending the session is scheduled immediately following the presentation.

Employment with the federal government continues to offer solid career paths for a variety of majors, including liberal arts majors. Pathways programs for new graduates and interns have been adopted by the federal government to promote civil service and to address projected labor needs in light of anticipated retirements. However, the application process for federal positions remains a bit daunting and lengthy, differing in a number of ways from the private sector recruitment. Knowing how to approach the federal job search process can open the doors to a number of meaningful career paths for college students.
