AILEY II DANCE COMPANY TO PERFORM AT VITERBO NOV. 1
LA CROSSE, Wis. – Described as the next generation of dance, the Ailey II dance company will bring their thrilling and captivating performance to the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center Main Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.
The Ailey II dance company is universally renowned for combining the spirit, energy, and incredible talent of some of the country’s best young dancers with outstanding emerging choreographers. Ailey II is one of the most popular dance companies in the country, with a rigorous touring schedule and extensive community outreach programs.
Founded in 1974 by Alvin Ailey, the company still embodies the original mission to establish an extended cultural community that provides dance performances, training, and community programs for all people. Today, artistic director Troy Powell brings a fresh dimension to this celebrated company.
“I always aim to commission ballets that challenge the dancers and help them develop as artists,” Powell said. “Our 12 dancers are excited to hit the road and share their gifts with the world. I’m so proud that 40 years after its inception, Ailey II continues to offer incomparable opportunities to young professional dance artists and rising choreographers.”
This performance is part of Viterbo’s Bright Star Season and is sponsored in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Center is the hotel sponsor and WXYM Mix 96.1 FM is the media sponsor.
Tickets are $38 for main floor, $34 for lower balcony, and $28 for upper balcony seating. For more information or to order tickets, contact the Viterbo box office at 608-796-3100 or visit www.viterbo.edu/tickets.
