A 2010 Viterbo graduate, Kira Peters began teaching at Viterbo in January 2020. Her exhibit, Leave the Light On, is a collection of paintings created over the past decade. The objects featured in this exhibition reflect transition and familiarity. As a still-life artist, she is drawn to containers, fabric and texture, gardening, and other everyday items. Peters practices the alla prima painting, a method that involves painting wet-on-wet, usually done in one sitting. The paintings in the exhibit, which runs Sept. 7–Oct. 26, tell a story of the pieces of everyday life, and the creation of many of the works helped Peters cope with the stress and isolation of pandemic shutdowns. An opening reception will run 5–7 p.m. on Sept. 7.
